slide on thursday threatened several homes in more rain over the weekend left three homes yellow tagged. last night, the owners of one of those homes decided it was time to go. >> as of right now, it is unstable. they did advise us that the hail is still -- mill is still moving down, they can't guarantee the houses will be here tomorrow. >> the red cross is providing temporary shelter. okay. in the north bay, the intersection of highways 12 and 121 in sonoma county is open again after flooding closed it down for two hours yesterday. all four lanes were covered in about two feet of water. chp set of detours for about four hours. all lanes are now open. there was also flooding on santa rosa. and in mill valley, three

families voluntarily evacuated their homes following a mud slide on ethel avenue. the slide didn't reach their homes but they were worried. two of those families were able to move back last night. experts will determine when the rest can return. people dealing with the effects of another floor flood that hit yesterday. downtown capitola was sub merged. this time dozens of homes and businesses were flooded, again. once again, the source of the water was a culvert that burst under that mobile home park. the pipe burst yesterday morning after workers had finished stablizing it from the earlier floods. >> the rains, heavy rains and volume of water, the crew had to

abandon their equipment. >> the floor literally fell out from under some homes, there was a vacuum cleaner, a couch going down the roadway and a staircase as you see there in the distance from a mobile home ended up in the middle of capitol a avenue. owe figures have advised people not to touch that run off. well the national front, political figures have been paying their respects to geraldine ferraro who died yesterday at age 75, she was the first woman to be nominated for vice-president by a major us political party. she and walter mondale losts to bush in 1984. yesterday senator barbara boxer

praised ferraro. and on the international front, the measurements showing an alarming spike in radiation at the striken nuclear plant was a mistake. they say the water at the plant at fukushima is contaminationed with radiation but not at the 10 million times higher levels normal that the company had reported earlier. emergency workers are struggling to pump out the contaminated water from four different reactors even as they are unsure where it's coming from. it's a key step towards getting the cooling systems after working again two weeks after the earthquake and tsunami hit the plant. rebels are continuing to move towards tripoli. there was a sir initial last night, they have also take ina

sarah palin is that attractive and that interesting. she'll run out, though, unless her rebar tour is much longer than it appears to be. jeff says it took sarah palin almost three years to run off being interesting. michelle bachman may surface the down turn sooner. >> what do you do if you are like a mitt romney who is trying to be a serious candidate out there, and you have these stars popping up on tv? >> you better shut up and wait for them to flame out and pray that you get -- >> speaking of stars on tv, chuck toomer is on tv every day, is he running for vice-president? >> i think so. hillary announced she doesn't want to be secretary of state next time around. the only time biden wanted to be was president or secretary of state. he did not want to be vice-president. he may get that chance and if he does, obviously obama is going

to need something like chuck shumer to be his running mate if hillary isn't. >> on this week in sacramento, a press conference with governor jerry brown, slashing spending to social problems, interesting, thing like democratic, that i thought -- >> bad scene. as a matter of fact, it's what republicans would do if it was schwarzenegger signing, you'd be cutting home health care, all the things that democrats care about, that photograph is going to playing democrats for the rest of their lives if they ever run for any other office. >> all right. we saw that action, i guess, last week. but i know you have had your eye on it and we're expecting maybe some more, we have a big deadline. >> big question is whether they were going to put the tack

welcome back to weekend early edition. it is 7:43. in international news, in england, protesters continued clashing with riot police after a quarter of a million people marched in london. their protesting the toughest cuts to public spending since world war ii. some small groups however smashed windows and shops and spray paymented walls. protesters rushed inside before police arrived. the demonstration of the city's largest since the start of the

iraq war. >> in yemen there were protestersers. the president said he was prepared to step down if he would be allowed a dignified depap do you remember. shoe throwing is a sign of contempt in arab culture. >> all right. back here in the bay area, if you're planning to drive in the sierra be prepared to deal with very snowy road conditions. here's a look a short time ago at the truck scales, chains are required on all vehicles traveling on i 80 except four wheel drives, chai attain requirement extends from niac up to donor lake, it's a similar story on highway 50 where chains are required from twin bridges to meyers.

>> it is quarter to 8 and 15 minuting a big marathon started in oakland, the running festival. a lot of road closures there. jim what kind of weather are we expecting for that? it looks a lot dryer today than yesterday. >> much dryer, a few light showers possible, on and off through the day, this is a minor event compared to yesterday, across the bay area. even in tahoe they're drying off there. there will be some light snow showers continuing you can you can only imagine how tired they are of pushing snow around. as we look at the transamerica building, here's the showers moving across the north bay, along the coast, this is the tail end of a week disturbance crossing well toward the north, this is about it for the day. we'll see this type of activity through the afternoon hours,

crossing the bay area intermittently so we could see a light showers out of that, certainly less rainfall than we've seen of light. temperatures up a couple of degrees today under partly to mostly cloudy skies with that slights chance of light showers through the day, as again this weather pattern is finally moving out of the area. this is the last day of it here. center of circumstance did you legislation to the north, it is moving in land with this last wave that will affect the bay area through the day today, giving it up for warmer and dryer weather, into next week. here's a look at the 24 rainfall total yesterday. generally less than an inch of rain except oakland, down toward santa russ and capitola, but again this will be the last wave crossing the area that will

affect the bay area for at leasts a week. slight chance of showers today, warmer and dryer setting up for next week. much anticipated as we have had a very wet month across the bay area, and it looks like a break is it in store as we see light showers crossing the bay area through the day giving way to dryer skies into next week. the chance of rain and snow in the mountains will taper off as well. for those returning early in the week looks like good travel conditions, as a change as we see our temperatures once again into the upper 50s to low 60s south bay, little cooler up north where a better chance of some rainfall will continue through the day. you see what happens through the week here, taking the water out of there and looking for more sunshine, temperatures headed into the mid to low 70s by the em of the week, closer to where we ought to be. chance of showers returning late in the weekend, but a nice break setting up out there, much

market area, barring that out of the city. in order to keep them here the city offered them a special payroll tax break. okay. now, here is the catch or the interesting part. that tax break wouldn't just apply to, say, twitter's payroll as they expand from 300 to over 3,000 workers, it would also possibly apply to those big iposes that they offer their employees. so the question down at city hall is, because no sooner did they offer it to twitter then these other people lined up and said what about us, big question down at city hall is, what are you going to do about this? if you offer somebody a tax break to move into a depressed area of san francisco from their location, and the others say we want it, too, what are you going to do? >> you don't want to be accused playing favorites but we have to point out the reason giving the

tax break is to try to revitalize that area of market street which is really really bad. >> another part is these other companies are saying we don't want to move to mid market. if you didn't give uses that break we're going to move out of san francisco because san francisco is the only one that has this tax on the ipos so she's company are saying for the 50 million tax safe. at city hall what do you do? you have a choice of giving corporations a big tax break or watching them pack up and move. >> so somebody has to do the math. >> the math seems to be either way. it's going to be tough, both financially and politically. the question is can we teak our tech base going here. >> in the short term i would love to see some improvement in that area. just a nasty pocket right in the city right by union square, that's a good area, just, it's rough. there needs to be a bridge. anyway, computer crash at alaska airlines affected more than 1 #
